Joe ended up being merely your person with average skills, nothing genuinely unique about him other than he was a firemen. This individual never genuinely thought of themselves as daring despite the fact that people often did. The challenge had been that ever since he rescued a child from the burning building one day and the community paper turned him into an instantaneous celeb full of photos and everything he had the title hung on him.
Joe could not go anywhere in town without being recognized. The same was being said for his wife as well since she was normally his partner at house fires. The downside was she could not even wear her pearl izumi shorts without people coming up to her and asking her tons of questions. Many of the questions were legitimate, but some of them were just stupid.
Joe decided that him with his fantastic wife would do something that they always dreamed of doing and that was to be able to use some of the items they had gotten over the years. The problem was it would require a vacation which would allow them to utilize the mongoose mountain bike the area bicycle shop offered both of them.
When they realized that it had been so long ago that they had acquired the item and never gotten to use it they were amazed. Joe quickly decided to spread the word to people that they were going to go into the mountains for a week or two. Joe knew that the results were not favorable as many people came up and tried to talk him out of taking the vacation some of them even offering him hundred dollar bills.
Since Joe knew they would be missing them he decided to save the last surprise for just before they left. That surprise was they were moving down into the mountains. The townspeople were taken aback and many of them started having tears welling up in their eyes. They knew that it was always his dream to move out of town, but they never thought he would leave the state.
Joe did make a promise to the small crowd around his retirement party that they would purchase one item from each store in town. The good thing for Joe was that many of the stores had recently went out of business and his wife’s favorite clothing shop was one of them. The downside was that the bicycle shop had just gotten some diamondback bikes in and Joe knew that he had to have those.
Joe made a decision which would allow them to get away from the township during the night time. Then they wouldn’t have folks preventing them from leaving. Joe and his better half realized that the men and women of the township would certainly try to stop them and also speak out on the topic. Yet Joe and his better half knew they wanted to get out of town before anyone knew they were gone.
As the fire grew in intensity he crawled down on his hands and knees underneath the rollover. As he advanced into the burning building is partner stayed near the entrance to feed him hose as he plowed towards the fire. The gear that he was wearing would afford him the necessary protection that he needed to get to the destination.
He advanced the hose slowly into the kitchen. The owner of the home said that her valuable wusthof knife set would be on the table, but the problem was the table was creating so much heat that he could not get close to it. He slowly cracked open the nozzle on the hose and heard the reassuring hiss of the water coming slowly to the nozzle and then seen it spray down on the table.
He looked over at the island and spied the henckels knife set that he was supposed to find also. He quickly grabbed the item and started feeling back towards the hose that was behind his back. Feeling that reassured him that he was going to be able to make it back out. As the flames grew stronger and banked down to the floor he turned and started following the hose out of the room leaving the nozzle behind and open.
Time was starting to run short for him as he heard the boards starting to crack. That meant the building was becoming unstable and could come down on him at any time. He started to scramble towards the exit of the kitchen as he heard more of the boards giving into the weight.
The firefighter quickly scrambled back down the hose towards the doorway as he heard the air horns blowing for everyone to evacuate the building. He knew that part of his job was done he had rescued half of the owners valuable knife sets, but not all of them. He was worried that everyone would be disappointed in him for doing only half the job, but that worry was quickly interrupted when he felt the floor getting squishy under his feet.
The doorway was in sight now and he could see the outside, but the floor was growing weaker and barely could support his weight. He had to jump at the doorway to make it out in time and came rolling out of the doorway to the safety of the outside.
He struggled to his feet and walked over to the properties resident. He handed the prized possession to her knowing that she would be very thankful. She looked up at him and with tears running down her face gave him a giant kiss on the cheek with everyone watching. He knew the guys would give him a ton of flak later on, but right now he was just thankful to be out alive.
